UpLink Pilot Program 2007-2009
| Business-education partnerships: Making the difference for kids in Greater Kansas City
Schools thrive with strong community partnerships. Thats why YouthFriends has been connecting caring adult volunteers with kids in schools for more than 14 years. And because the needs of K-12 education are constantly evolving, YouthFriends created UpLink, a one-stop hub that connects the workplace with the classroom to engage, excite and inspire students about careers in math, engineering, technology, science and business. The pilot program ran from 2007-2009.
There were several ways to get involved:
Mentor or e-mentor students in schools
Offer student field trips/workplace explorations
Participate in the Classroom Speakers program
Hire a student intern through StepUp! Student Internships
Hire a teacher extern
through TeacherTech Externships
